One of the areas that I particularly enjoy specialising in is pet portraits. I find this to be especially rewarding with our pets being much loved members of the family. I take great care to try and ensure that the portrait likeness is not just about how the pet looks, but that I also manage to capture the essence of the pet, to bring out their own individual character. Pet portraits can sometimes be quite generic, so it is important to me that I manage to individualise the painting so that you clearly recognise it as ‘your pet’. Although I am based in Alton, Hampshire I can take pet portrait commissions from anywhere, because I work from photographs, which need to be as clear and detailed as possible. Together we discuss which elements of the character of the pet you would most like to highlight. I tend to focus a lot on the eyes of the pet, which I think say so much. Where possible, it is good to meet the pet in person and experience their personality for myself.

“I thought you might like to know that my daughter loved your painting. Thank you so very much.”
I take great care to create detailed pet portraits that whilst being realistic, also retain the identity of being a painting. I mainly work in either acrylic or coloured pencil. Pet portraits can either be on canvas or board as you prefer. I do not frame the paintings because I think this allows you to choose the frame for the environment into which the painting will be hung. Check out my gallery and price list for further information and please remember to allow enough time (minimum of 2 weeks) if you want the pet portrait as a birthday or Christmas present.

“The attention to detail is remarkable. I can highly recommend Ben and you can be confident that his work will truly be “your” pet.”
